Guest Post: "Dance your Way to Healthy" by Kathleen Thomas

Today is a special day because you get to hear from someone other than me!  (yay!)

This post is provided by Kathleen Thomas on behalf of Dr. Mary Zurn, Vice President of Education, Primrose Preschools.  If you want to give back to the community and help children in need please listen carefully to what Kathleen Thomas has to say:

Kathleen Thomas:  We hear about the concern over “childhood obesity” so much these days that, unfortunately, it can feel like an inevitable problem that’s out of our control. The CDC tells us the national childhood obesity rate has nearly tripled in the past 30 years. As a result, more and more young children today are developing adult health problems like high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. Childhood obesity is a critical issue for young children in America, but fortunately, there is a great deal we can do to prevent it.

We all know that in addition to eating a balanced diet, physical activity plays a vital role in keeping children’s bodies healthy. Dancing is a fun, easy way to incorporate lively physical activity into your family’s routine while enjoying quality time together. Not only is dance an entertaining way for children to keep their hearts healthy, but it is also a creative form of self-expression that builds their self-confidence and promotes their development as happy, fit and healthy individuals.

In 2010, Primrose Schools launched a program that gives families an opportunity to embrace healthy lifestyles and impact children in their local community at the same time through a dance contest benefiting Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. This year, we’re back with our second installment of the national Family Dance-offcontest, and the prizes are even bigger and better!

All you have to do is submit a 30-second home video of your family's best dance moves any time between Feb. 1 and March 19. We will select 14 finalists based on how many votes each family’s video receives (you can vote 5 times/day), and each of the 14 finalist families will receive a Flip Video Camcorder. Viewers can then vote for their favorite weekly finalists on from March 20-26. From there, our guest panel of judges will narrow it down to three winners. The grand prize winning family will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a $30,000 donation will be made to their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. The second prize winner will receive $3,000 and a $20,000 donation to their local CMN Hospital, and the third prize winner will receive $1,500 and a $15,000 donation. The grand, second and third prize winners will be announced the week of March 28.

Please visit for more information, and I hope you’ll decide to join in and groove with Primrose. You can help local children in need in your community by entering and voting to bring one of our three tremendous donations to your local CMN Hospital. CMN Hospitals creates real miracles, and at Primrose, we believe in moving for miracles – please join us!

Thanks so much Kathleen for your invitation to participate in such a great opportunity!  I challenge all of you reach out and see how you can help children in need!

Please leave a comment if you have any questions or if you would like more information.  :)  Have a great day!
