Summer is just around the corner! I know when I was young my mom heard, “Mom I’m boooooorred!” at least 5 times a day. Those summer days can be long and hot, and it can sometimes be hard to keep us kids busy! Here’s my top 5 FREE activities my mom had up her sleeve to silence the boredom battle cry.
1. Homemade Water Park
Turn on the sprinklers, put down a tarp, add some bubbles, and your ready to go! My twin sister and I would run through the sprinklers in the front yard, crawling under them, jumping over them, making an obstacle course of our own! And then running to the side yard and sliding down the bubble filled tarp! SO easy, and would keep us entertained for hours!
2. Fort Building
Great for a rainy day! Throw your kids some cardboard boxes, tape, scissors, blankets, clips, and markers and let them have a hay day!
3. Worm Farm
Put down a blanket in the back yard, or near some bushes and dig away! My mom would give us a bucket and we would compete to dig and find as many worms as we could! We had a blast doing it! Who knew something so simple could keep our little minds so entertained? We’d keep them over night in our bucket and the next day we’d disperse them into my moms plants and loved knowing we were helping her plants grow big and strong!
4. Nature Walk
Many parks have free walking trails, and your kids will love seeing all the trees, plants, birds, and occasional critters running by. Plus, it will tire them out a little, and the whole family will get some exercise. My mom used to take us on walks through our neighborhood with scavenger hunt lists and give us each a Ziploc bag.

> Find a Red Leave
> Find an Acorn
> Find a Feather
5. Rock Friends
My sister and I loved crafts when we were little and my mom always had a quick and easy craft up her sleeve! One of my favorites was Rock Friends! First, we each had to go outside and find our three favorite rocks, big, little, round, bumpy, you name it, we painted it! Then my mom would set out our paint and paint brushes and we’d paint away and she would hot glue googley eyes on the rocks for us to make our own little rock pets!
